Always
interested in all forms of creative artwork, Doris started
painting
seriously after attending a watercolor workshop while vacationing
in Stone Harbor, New Jersey in 1978. This workshop sparked
her
interest in the watercolor medium and led to many more workshop
trips with instruction by well-known artists in which she
was able
to explore the many faces of watercolor. She was attracted especially
to watercolor because of its luminous quality and versatility.
After retiring as a teacher she has devoted much of her time
to painting and developing a series of limited edition prints
of
Avalon and Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where Doris and her husband
have a home. Doris loves the sea and finds that watercolor
lends
itself well to depicting the ever-changing atmospheric conditions
found at the shore. Her love for the area can be seen in her
paintings.
In addition to her prints she has created note cards and Christmas
cards from her paintings.
Doris
also paints subjects other than shore scenes and especially
enjoys
painting floral's. During the summer season Doris exhibits her
work at several art and craft shows in the Stone Harbor-Avalon
area. She has been represented in juried art shows in Reading
and at the shore. Her work can be found in private and corporate
collections throughout the country. She is represented by Ocean
Gallery in Stone Harbor and Avalon, Sand Pebbles Gallery in
Ocean
City, Nj and Deck the Walls in Reading, PA.
